Pregnancy, birth, and infant feeding can bring up a lot of questions — and that’s completely normal. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions families and professionals ask when working with YOLO Breastfeeding.

General Questions

  • YOLO Breastfeeding provides lactation support, doula services, family education classes, professional courses and trainings, and community events. Our care is rooted in evidence-based practice, cultural responsiveness, and community-centered support.

  • We support birthing and lactating families, caregivers, and professionals. Our services are available to families throughout Flint, Michigan and Genesee County, with some offerings available virtually.

  • YOLO Breastfeeding is based in Flint, Michigan and serves families throughout Genesee County. Many services are available virtually, depending on need and availability.

  • No referral is required to book services directly. Healthcare providers and community organizations may also refer families to YOLO for lactation support.

  • If you’re unsure, booking a consultation or reaching out through the contact form is a great place to start. We’re happy to help guide you.

Appointments & Scheduling

  • Appointments can be booked through our online scheduling system. You can also contact us directly if you have questions before booking.

  • Yes. Many services, including lactation support and classes, are available virtually when appropriate.

  • Your first visit includes time to discuss concerns, assess feeding, and create a personalized care plan aligned with your goals.

  • Please cancel your appointment within 24 hours.  If anyone in your household is ill, please reschedule your appointment. We care about the safety for all newborns and their families.

Insurance, Cost & Access to Care

  • Some services, including lactation support and classes, are available at no cost for Flint and Genesee County families through grant funding and partnerships.

  • Coverage varies by service and insurance plan. Our team can help families explore coverage options during the consultation process.

  • YOLO is committed to improving access to care. Grant-funded services and community-based support may be available depending on eligibility.

  • Doula services begin with a consultation. Pricing and coverage details are discussed after the consultation to ensure care is personalized and accessible.

Lactation & Feeding Questions

  • Lactation support can be helpful at any point — during pregnancy, postpartum, or later in your feeding journey. You don’t need to wait until something feels “wrong.”

  • Many families seek support for reassurance, education, or preparation, even when feeding is going smoothly.

  • Yes. YOLO supports breastfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, supplementation, and individualized feeding goals.

  • Absolutely. Support is nonjudgmental and centered on what works best for your family.

  • Yes. Partners and caregivers are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Classes, Courses & Education

  • Family classes are currently offered virtually. Professional courses and trainings may be offered virtually or in person, depending on the program.

  • Classes are available at no cost for Flint and Genesee County families through grant funding.

  • Classes are open to parents, partners, caregivers, and anyone supporting a birthing or feeding family.

  • Yes. Participants who complete the course earn the Community Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) certification.

  • Yes. The 45-hour CBS course can count toward lactation-specific education hours required prior to sitting for the IBCLC exam.
